Lubica Dobalova was born and raised in Bratislava, Slovakia.  She received her full ballet training, at the State Conservatory, specializing in the Vaganova/Russian method.  After graduating, she went on to complete a teaching degree in Classical Ballet, Character and the History of Dance from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Bratislava. 

In 1969, Lubica joined the Slovak National Opera and Ballet Theatre where she performed in many major ballets as a soloist and principal dancer.  Her favorite ballets include Swan Lake, Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, Fountain of Bakchisarai, Bolero, Don Quichotte, Gayaneh, Pas de Quatre,

Mahler/Classical Symphony, Doctor Jajbolito.  With such a vast repertoire of dramatic storyline ballets, Lubica, in addition to perfecting her technique, delighted in the development of her characters and brought a unique style to each role. While performing, teaching, and touring in many european cities, Lubica also performed in numerous television dance productions.

Since her arrival in Canada in 1977, Lubica has taught in many prominent dance institutions such as York University and Les Ballets Jazz in Toronto.  In Regina, Saskatchewan, she was appointed as a ballet mistress, as well as a performer for the Saskatchewan Ballet Theatre.  In 1987, she joined ¨Les Sortilèges¨ folk dance ensemble in Montreal, Quebec, as a teacher of Character Dances and as a rehearsal coach.  In 1988, she assumed the role of pedagogue of classical Ballet, Character and Repertoire at ¨L’École de Danse Eddy Toussaint¨.  In addition to ballet, Lubica has taught many other dance styles, including ballroom, cabaret and Argentinean Tango at renowned schools such as Arthur Murray Dance School.

Since 2000, Lubica is founder and artistic director of Ballet Allegro International.  With her extensive performing, teaching and choreographing over the last 25 years, Lubica is rigorous with technique, but also emphasizes style, character development as well as dramatic expression in order to best prepare her dancers for the stage in both Classical ballet and related dance forms.  Lubica is dedicated to the tradition of classical ballet in its purest form and strives to transmit her passion and experience in order to encourage her students to develop their own love of dance.
